Description
Following his promotion to General, General Meagher leads the 2nd Irish Brigade into the Battle of Fair Oaks/Seven Pines it would be the first time the 2nd brigade saw combat. The battle was fought from May 31-June 1, 1862 in Henrico County, Virginia and was part of the Peninsula Campaign. The Peninsula Campaign was an offensive by the Union under General George B. McClellan the army of the Potomac would reach the outskirts of Richmond. More than 83,000 soldiers would fight on both sides with 13,700 casualties.
